The avalanche story

Where We Began

Avalanche Bars was born when a competitive snowboarder's mother needed a 100% nut-free source of protein to send with him to his practice on the mountain. An avid baker, she developed a trail bar using clean, simple ingredients with no artificial or refined sugars, and of course – no nuts! 

Her bars were a hit with friends and family, and her son began sharing them with his snowboarding community. Before long a business was born.

Getting Known in Greenville

As distribution grew, the company expanded into a 100% nut-free commercial kitchen in Greenville, SC in the foothills of the North Carolina mountains. The region is known for active hiking, rock climbing, cycling and river sports - a perfect fit for Avalanche. 

New Chapter

In 2019, husband and wife George Buell and Megan Kelly relocated to Greenville from Charleston. George came from a long career in the restaurant and food production industries, and Megan was not only interested in food prep and creation, she also knew the operations and marketing side as well. After working with the founder for several months, George and Megan offered to purchase the company and a new chapter began.

Avalanche Bars are hand-crafted and packaged for sale online and in select Greenville shops. Ingredients are of the highest quality. Oats, seeds, dried fruits, honey, butter and protein powder combine to produce a delicious bar for trail, school or work. At almost 80g per bar, nearly 50% larger than most other products on the market, Avalanche Bars make a terrific substitute for breakfast or lunch. 

 For our customers facing nut allergy challenges, we promise a 100% nut-free product produced in a 100% nut-free facility.

Avalanche Leadership

Megan Kelly leads our marketing department, client communications and development of new strategic partnerships and George Buell manages kitchen production and shipping operations as well as new product development. As you can see, we have our hands full raising two English Setter pups when we're not hard at work baking awesome Avalanche Bars!
